Page - Closing Gaps Between Teeth
The treatment for closing gaps between teeth depends on a number of factors. Most importantly, the size of the space that needs to be closed. Invisalign, resin bonding, porcelain veneers, porcelain crowns and porcelain bridges can be used to treat gaps between teeth.
Large gaps between teeth are more challenging to manage than smaller gaps. Closing gaps between teeth means widening the teeth symmetrically. Widening a tooth changes the proportions which can have an undesirable aesthetic effect if the tooth already has the correct proportions.
With the exception of skinny narrow teeth, widening a tooth to close the gap generally means that the tooth needs to be lengthened as well to maintain the correct aesthetic proportions. If this added length to the front teeth improves the smile then treatment with resin bonding, porcelain veneers or porcelain crowns will create an aesthetic result. Prior to the start of treatment, a test or trial of the proposed new shaped teeth is performed. This takes only a few minutes and is immediately reversible.
