The Examination
With the exception of dental emergencies, patients seeking complete dental care should firstly undergo an examination.
Prior to your examination, you will be asked to complete a medical and dental questionnaire. The first step at this appointment will be to discuss any concerns and your treatment desires.
A comprehensive examination of your mouth will be undertaken. This involves:
Soft tissue assessment and oral cancer screening
Periodontal Assessment (health of the gums)
Temporomandibular jaw joint assessment
Complete dental assessment
Full mouth x-ray film (OPG)
Small x-ray films to detect small early cavities
Photographic records
Plaster study models if necessary
Our team will discuss their findings with you and outline a detailed preventive regime
Post Examination
We will discuss with you the various treatment options available and give you a good understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of the different treatment options.
With your help, we will tailor a treatment plan for you to suit your individual needs. This treatment plan will be provided in writing prior to the commencement of treatment.
This will summarise the following:
Number of appointments required
Duration of each appointment
Cost of treatment
Health Fund item numbers to calculate out of pocket expenses
You will then be able to determine in your own time, whether you wish to proceed with any treatment that has been recommended for you. There is no obligation for you to proceed.
